Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: RN Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Third Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: No experience required License: Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Proficiency in administering medications and performing various medical procedures such as wound care and IV therapy - Strong assessment skills and critical thinking abilities - Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment - Effective communication skills for collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and for providing clear explanations to patients and their families - Deep understanding of medical terminology and healthcare regulations Description: The Registered Nurse implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person. The focus is on creating a caring environment dedicated to healing and wellness. Nursing practices are based on evidence, current research, and established hospital policies and procedures. Clinical decision-making involves all four phases of the nursing process, alongside critical thinking and creativity. Nursing excellence is promoted through collaborative relationships among nursing staff and other disciplines. Direct patient care activities on the unit include nursing rounds, assessments, and treatments. The RN facilitates admission, transfer, and discharge activities and provides patient and family-centered education. Coordination and individualized treatment planning are essential components of care. The RN performs comprehensive assessments while considering the patient’s culture, age, and developmental level. Patient risk factors and presenting complaints are identified and documented appropriately. Health information is obtained from patients and family members when necessary. Objective and subjective data is collected to inform care decisions. The RN develops a prioritized problem list based on input from the inter-professional team. Actions and interventions are designed relevant to the patient’s context. Desired outcomes are determined in coordination with the patient and family, aligning with the medical plan of care. Patient care therapies and procedures are fully implemented within the RN's scope of practice. The RN explains procedures and processes to patients and families to alleviate stress and discomfort. Changes in patient condition are recognized and communicated appropriately. Ongoing assessments are conducted and documented in accordance with hospital policy. Priorities are set for the care of multiple patients, ensuring resources are coordinated effectively. Workload organization allows for the effective use of time and energy relative to patient needs. Tasks are delegated appropriately, with oversight of team members in patient care activities. The RN monitors the accuracy and completeness of care delivered by team members. Educational needs of patients regarding prioritized problems are identified and addressed. The discharge process is facilitated effectively, with timely execution of discharge orders and teaching. Input into patient/nurse assignments considers staffing availability, unit activity, and patient acuity. Active participation in unit-based activities supports organizational values and priorities. A positive group dynamic and healing environment are promoted through respectful interactions. Nursing excellence is assured in accordance with accepted standards, evidence-based practice, and current research.
