We are seeking an experienced Lead Piping Designer to support the delivery of complex engineering and design projects across the full project lifecycle. You will lead piping design activities from concept and front-end engineering through to detailed design, construction support and commissioning. The role requires a strong understanding of piping systems, plant layout and relevant industry standards, together with the ability to coordinate effectively across engineering disciplines, project teams, clients and contractors.
Your responsibilities will include developing and reviewing piping layouts, general arrangement drawings, isometrics, support arrangements and design deliverables. You will guide and check the work of other designers, allocate tasks, monitor progress and ensure that designs are delivered to the required quality, schedule and budget. You will participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, model coordination meetings, site surveys and technical discussions, identifying and resolving clashes, interfaces and design risks. You will also contribute to material take-offs, piping specifications, line lists, equipment arrangements and technical documentation, while supporting procurement, fabrication, installation and commissioning activities as required.
Applicants should have substantial experience in piping design within engineering, energy, chemical, manufacturing, infrastructure or a related industrial environment. A relevant technical qualification or equivalent practical experience is required, along with advanced knowledge of 2D and 3D design tools such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, E3D, PDMS, SmartPlant or comparable systems. You should be confident interpreting P&IDs, equipment data sheets, piping specifications and applicable codes and standards. Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams. Experience mentoring designers, coordinating design packages and supporting projects through construction will be highly valued. A proactive approach to health, safety, quality and continuous improvement is expected.
